Wanda Winegardner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fisher Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services - Logansport on Nov. 21, 2025.
Obituary Tribute written by son, Larry Costello.
Wanda M. Costello-Winegardner, 92, passed peacefully from earth to heaven early Friday morning November 21, 2025. She died of natural causes in her Logansport home, surrounded by her family and her dog Penny.
Born December 28, 1932, in Perrysville, Indiana, she was the daughter of Charles and Bessie Wolfe and was one of 11 children.
Wanda moved to Logansport at age 16 and began her career as a cashier, spending many years at Garden City and Kroger, where she met Joseph Costello. Their first date was a movie at the State Theatre. They married on June 1, 1952, and shared nearly three decades together until Joe's death in 1981. Some of their happiest memories were traveling to national parks.
Surviving are their four children: Karen Costello Tanner (David); Barbara Neff; Brenda Costello-Wells (Grant); and Larry Costello, as well as grandchildren: Ryan Wells; Claire Costello; Chris Neff; Carrie Neff and three great-grandchildren.
In 1988, Wanda married Melvin Winegardner, Sr. She became part of a large extended family which included her stepchildren, Mel Winegardner, Jr. (Cheri) and the late Karla Kreighbaum. Together they enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and wintering in Florida, playing dominoes and tending to their garden until his passing in 2016.
Wanda loved baking and was especially known for personalizing sugar cookies for her children's classmates and neighborhood friends. She was always ready to visit with and help neighbors in need. In her later years she found joy in watching birds and deer from her family room beside a warm fireplace.
She will be remembered as a loving, generous and supportive mother and grandmother who treasured every visit with her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon, and was a member of the Mary Dykeman Guild at Memorial Hospital. Wanda also had many friends and seemed to know everyone in Logansport. The family is especially grateful to Wanda's caregivers, who enabled her to stay in her home until her death.
A service celebrating her life will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church on Tuesday December 2 at 4 p.m., followed by a meal.
Instead of sending flowers, you may make donations to Calvary Presbyterian Church and the Cass County Humane Society.
