Warren Pomeroy Obituary

Warren H. Pomeroy

RUSHFORD --- Warren H. Pomeroy, a dedicated member of the community, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 27, 2026, at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born on March 12, 1936, in Rushford in the family home, a son of the late Marvin and Myrtle Jones Pomeroy Sr. He married Judith Black who predeceased him. Later he married Roberta Gosper who predeceased him.

Warren was well-known as the owner and operator of Pomeroy Brothers and operated the old family sawmill both of which had a significant contribution to many buildings throughout Rushford. Warren personally graded the Buffalo Airport runway, showcasing his expertise as a heavy equipment operator. His career reflected his commitment to craftsmanship and service, helping to shape the infrastructure of his community.

In addition to his professional contributions, Warren's various roles in public service marked him as a dedicated citizen. He served as a member of the Rushford Town Board for 14 years and was also a 14-year member of the Rushford School Board. His commitment to health and well-being was further demonstrated during his tenure as a former member of the Allegany County Board of Health. For many years, he took pride in being the caretaker of White Cemetery, ensuring the final resting place of many was well-maintained. Warren was also a member and Deacon of the Rawson Baptist Church, where his faith and leadership were cherished by his fellow congregants.

Warren's personality was characterized by his genuine love for helping others. He had a knack for bringing joy to any occasion with his ability to tell jokes and captivating stories. His hobbies included farming, making maple syrup and raising Angus Beef cattle which his great-nephews Cody and Cyle Pomeroy continue to do to this day. Among his fondest memories was the enjoyment found in peanut butter sandwiches dipped in milk, a testament to his down-to-earth nature.

Warren's military service in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 was notable, particularly as a member of the US Army Rifle Team, where he achieved first place numerous times with his BAR rifle.

His passing leaves a profound void in the community, but his spirit will remain etched in the memories of those he touched with his kindness and generosity. He is survived by a loving community deeply grateful for his countless contributions.

Surviving are his children, Darleen Pomeroy of Rushford, Victoria Hancock of Nebraska, Julie Pomeroy of Rushford, step-children, Richard (Sheri) Reynolds of Paris, Tenn., Darcy (Don) Baylor of Angelica, 12 grandchildren, Caitlyn (Donald) Baldo, Ian (Brooke) Hancock, Alfred (Morgan) Reynolds, Curtis (Megan) Reynolds, Lydia Hancock, Jacob Pomeroy, Jeremiah Pomeroy, Joshua (Sara) Pomeroy, Jessica Pomeroy, Maggie (Austin) Buffington, Kaylan (John) Buteyn, John (Aholibama) Caufield, 20 great-grandchildren, his brother, James K.
