Warren Svanda, age 67 of Tyndall, died Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall.
Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 30 at Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall. His funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Country Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Tabor.
Warren was born to Wilbur and Arlene Svanda on February 18, 1957. He was also welcomed by big brother, Roger. He grew up on a farm north of Tyndall, attended Nedved District 47 Country School and helped with the daily farm chores. Warren and his family were active in 4-H programs. He attended the Presbyterian Church.
When Warren started high school in "town" a whole new world opened up to him. With his frequent laugh and easy-going manner he made friends easily. He participated in several sports and soon learned he excelled at running. He earned the name "crazy legs" for a reason. Warren continued his running when he attended USD/Springfield, where he met another running enthusiast, Virgil Tjeerdsma. The two of them put in many miles, participating in races for several years.
After graduating from Tyndall-Tabor High School he attended the University of South Dakota at Springfield for auto body repair. However, his blue Chevelle was parked for some time before his nephew talked him into giving the car to him to restore.
Farming and Warren were not always a good match so Warren held down various jobs, including C-R Industries and recently at Parkston-Kaylor Coop. He preferred the night shift since he said he couldn't sleep anyway.
Warren never married but had a multitude of friends and co-workers whose children he watched in any sporting event. He could also be seen with his two bags of popcorn, watching one of many car races.
Warren's illness seemed to have happened quickly when it actually had been going on for some time. He had been privately dealing with failing health for awhile but chose not to share that information with either friends or family. When he was faced with the thought of chemotherapy, surgery and a myriad of tests, he chose to decline all that. He said he just wanted to be in Tyndall and was at peace with his decision.
He joined his parents and other relatives in heaven; with a little smile on his face and his brother, sister-in-law and cousin at his side.
He leaves behind his brother, Roger and his wife, Connie; nephews, Christopher (Jamie) and their girls, Nicole and Carol of Sioux Falls; Cory (Tabitha) and their daughter, Eve of Tyndall; niece, Carly and her son, Carter of Sioux Falls. There are also many cousins and friends left to tell his stories.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncles and aunts, Elmer and Annabelle Svanda, Emil and Irene Herman, Ed and Virginia Slama, Franklin Nedved, Bob Nedved and cousins, Sandi Kreber and Wayne Slama.
