Warren Grove Teates
November 30, 1929 - December 22, 2025
Warren Grove Teates returned to his Lord on December 22, 2025, with his daughter Christina and son John at his side. After a full life well-lived, he passed peacefully following a July illness that had left him bedridden but comfortable in his final months.
Warren was born in Washington, DC on November 30, 1929 to Mae and Gilbert Teates. Brothers Tom, Charles, and Edwin followed.
Warren is survived by his daughter, Christina; son, John and his wife Janice; grandchildren, Katie and Joe (children of John and Janice), and his brother, Tom. He was preceded in death by his sons, James, David, and Joseph; his brothers, Charles and Edwin; and his wives, Margaret and Bobbi.
Warren graduated from Luray High School in 1946 and Strayer College in 1949, obtaining his CPA certificate in 1952. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Margaret and moved to Winchester, VA in 1954, where he spent 35 years building a successful career in the restaurant and hospitality industry.
In 1988, he retired to central Virginia to pursue his passion for beef farming. Over the next 33 years in the Rustburg, Gladstone, and Lynchburg areas he raised cattle and built lasting friendships.
He moved to Charlotte, NC in 2021 to be closer to his son John and his family. He cherished his longtime friendship with Caroline Emswiler.
Among his many civic involvements, he was past president of the Shenandoah Valley Travel Association, the Rustburg Lions Club, and the Campbell County Cattlemen's Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Campbell County Farm Bureau and Mays Farmers Service. Warren was a Champion Blood Donor for the
American Red Cross donating over 100 pints of blood throughout his lifetime.
In his leisure he enjoyed aviation and, perhaps closest to his heart, many festive nights attending Lynchburg Hillcats baseball games.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the
American Red Cross in Warren's memory.
A service celebrating his life will be held at noon at Heritage Funeral Services in Lynchburg, VA on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. A reception at Heritage will immediately follow. He will be buried in Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, VA with immediate family attending.
