Wayland Welty Obituary

Published by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Leander/Cedar Park on Dec. 15, 2014.
Wayland Dale Welty, a retired United States Air Force Major, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at the age of 86 after 12 years of giving Parkinson's disease a run for its money. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the United States of America, which he served for 24 years. An alum of the University of Iowa, Major Welty held a bachelor of arts in political science and a master of arts in education. He always said he was born on the wrong side of the tracks, but his high school sweetheart gave him a chance anyhow. They shared nearly 67 years of marriage full of adventures, travel, partnership, friendship and love. Although he traveled the world, he considered Texas his home. He was a lover of candy, Girl Scout cookies, chocolate, British comedy, slapstick & political satire, playing dress up with his grandchildren and having smiley face sticker fights. He was a brilliant man with a sharp sense of humor and so much pride in his family's accomplishments. Major Welty is preceded in death by parents Oscar and Dolores Welty, brother Roger Welty and son Mark Steven Welty. He is survived by his loving wife Naomi Welty, daughter Laura and husband Mark Folks, daughter Martha and husband Dennis Rutter, granddaughter Rachel and husband Lee, granddaughter Danielle, granddaughter Eden and fiancée Allen, great granddaughters Savannah and Kaylee, and many nieces and nephews.
