Wayne F. Barnes, 82, died Sunday, June 30, 2024, in Salt Lake City, due to complications of pneumonia.
Wayne was born in American Fork, Utah, on May 18, 1942, as the youngest child and only son of Wayne Franklin and Eleanor Larue Barnes. He spent his childhood in Lehi and American Fork, enjoying adventure with friends, endless hours of baseball and basketball, and summers working with Grandpa Frank on his farm in Lehi.
Wayne married LuDean Jones of Lehi on July 31, 1965, in Riverside, California. They were later divorced. He married Marilyn Huntington of Salt Lake on Aug 22, 1990, in Lihue, Kauai. Wayne spent much of his career working in the credit union system, including many years with Geneva Federal Credit Union and Corporate Central Credit Union of Utah. He enjoyed his retirement years splitting time between Salt Lake and St. George, golfing as much as time and weather would allow. Weekly visits at the donut shop for coffee with a lifelong friend were a standard too.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Marilyn Barnes, Salt Lake; daughter, Nannette Barnes, Lehi; daughter, Jennifer (Michael Cochran) Huntington, Vernal; two sisters, Carol Jean (William) Keetch, Delta and Colleen Millard, New Orleans. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Connie Ferguson and brothers-in-law Larry Ferguson and William Keetch.
An outdoor viewing and services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at the Memorial Holladay Cemetery, 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah. Come casual or in your best golf wear as Wayne would enjoy.
