Mr. Richard Wayne Barnes, 71, went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2025 at Brookdale Lawndale Park in Greensboro.
He was born in Wilson, North Carolina, a son to Clifton "Bud" and Burlyn Barfield Barnes. In 1976 he married the former Susan Lamm and together they moved to the Greensboro/Archdale area shortly thereafter. Wayne was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church in Greensboro and later Fairfield Community Church in High Point. As his health challenges progressed, he demonstrated his Faith through uplifting others and cherishing time with friends at Brookdale. Wayne was a skilled craftsman and an expert at "working with his hands." For many years, he was employed as a machinist with Piedmont Ford. He enjoyed woodworking and owned an artistic picture framing business. His special wit and unique sense of humor with friends, family and the Brookdale & Hospice staffs, will be missed.
Surviving is his wife, Susan Barnes of the residence; a son, Barry Barnes (Sheri) of Chapel Hill; two daughters, Lauren Nichols (William) of Nashville, TN and Leslie Reed (Dylan) of Trinity; a granddaughter, Maddie Barnes of Chapel Hill; a sister, Joyce Bay of Raleigh; and a sister-in-law, Angie Barnes of Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tim Barnes, and brother-in-law, Bill Bay.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Chaplain Rick Charles officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Special thanks are extended to the nurses and staff at both Brookdale Lawndale Park and Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care and special moments spent with Wayne. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont at 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262. Condolences may be made through www.cumbyfuneral.com.
