Wayne Allen Cantrell, age 72, went to be with Jesus on February 10, 2024. Beloved husband for 42 years of Betsy Cantrell nee Gerich. Loving father of Annie Cantrell, James (Megan) Cantrell, Steven Cantrell, Adam Cantrell, and Joshua Cantrell. Proud Papa of Nicholas (Destanie), Abigail, Charlotte, Mya, and Lily and great-grandfather of Nicholas. Dear brother of Candice (Andrew) Evans and uncle of Lee (Lisa) Evans. Wayne greeted everyone with a smile and never met a stranger. He was soft-spoken but when he did speak, his wisdom and gentle manner made you sit up and listen. He was a proud Christian and has walked with his Lord since 1980. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, recreational shooting, and was most importantly, spending time with his family and friends, especially at Cubs games.
He was proud to serve his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He also volunteered at A Cup of Joe Veteran's Outreach. He then spent 52 years in the Local 150 Heavy Equipment Operator Union. He was the head of the Men's group at the Gathering Place in Libertyville. He also coached his boys in Little League and was a Royal Ranger leader.
