Wayne Doolittle Obituary
Wayne graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1959, then served in the United States Coast Guard. Following his service, Wayne joined the Jacksonville Fire Department in 1963. He was one of the first young firefighters to partake in the department's introduction of the Rescue Department in 1967. Wayne eventually climbed the ranks to engineer, and was awarded the Firefighter of the Year Award in 1987.
He was also credited with starting the Firefighters Retirees' Luncheon, and had a major role in establishing the Jacksonville Fire Museum, as well as establishing the Fallen Firefighter Memorial at Fire Station 1. After retiring in 1995, Wayne established the Jacksonville's Retired Firefighter Association where he served as president until recently. Wayne will be especially remembered for his roles played in appearances for the city's Oldest Living Firemen, where he operated an antique fire truck in local parades, as well as the organizing luncheons for the widows of his fellow firefighters.
Wayne also especially loved his family. He is survived by two sons, Brian (Brenda) Doolittle, Brad Doolittle, and 3 grandchildren, Morgan Doolittle, Gabrielle (Kevin) Spaulding, and Davis Doolittle. All of whom he was extremely proud of and loved endlessly.
Wayne was a devoted member of the Franklin Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to his church in his memory.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family asks that anyone who wishes to share a fond memory of Wayne anywhere throughout his wife, do so here."
