Wayne Franklin Dutton, 86 of Freeland, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Great Lakes Rehab Center in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born September 12, 1939, in Rosebush, Michigan; however, he spent all of his childhood running around Grayling. He was preceased in death by his wife, Katheleen Dutton; daughter, Stacey Dutton; mother, Lillian (Williams) Dutton; two sisters, Sarah and Rose; two brothers, Arnold and Roy; and so many more that his family affectionately joked that he was the last of the Mohicans.

In 1959, he met his Kat (Kathy) and fell in love. They married in 1960, and had 61 beautiful years together making memories, while building a family. Wayne was a proud member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and took great pleasure and pride when talking about his heritage. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his family and friends and always enjoyed a visit that usually included a funny story or a cherished memory that he would share.

Wayne enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960, and served in both Active and Reserve duties until his retirement 20 yrs later. Wayne served aboard the USS Piedmont (Dixie Class Destroyer) as well as time within the San Diego Naval Base offices. Wayne was assigned to Grayling Reserve upon completion of active duty.

Wayne’s next opportunity came in the form of a banker’s life, where for several years he worked at Michigan National Bank while hitting the books at Saginaw Valley State College Electrician Trade School. Wayne worked at Saginaw Steering Gear as an Electrical Apprentice before obtaining his Journeyman’s and then his Master’s Licenses. He went on to work for General Motors, where he retired after 32 years.

He is survived by his three sons, Anthony Dutton, Randy Dutton, Rodney (Joy) Dutton; five grandchildren, Maxwell, Madison, Dakota, Lucas, and Gabriella; a sister-in-law, Karen (Bill) Coe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Everyone is invited to pay their respects Sunday October 5th, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the W. L. Case Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603.
