Wayne Dyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2010.
Wayne Dyer, 67, of Chattanooga, TN, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, August 30, 2010. A graduate of Central High School, he received his Bachelor's degree from Lee College and his Master's degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Wayne felt called to serve the Lord as a minister when he was a young boy and his brother and sisters were his first congregation. For over 40 years he has ministered with love, kindness and care in the Church of God as pastor, State Youth Director, director of Boy's Ranch, campus pastor of Northwest Bible College, served on a National Advisory Committee at Love Canal, NY, prayer warrior, and had a passion for visiting with the sick and those who might need encouragement. He is a member of the Lake Hills Church of God and was a retired counselor with Camelot. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Dyer and a sister, Janice Dyer. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lynn Rowan Dyer; three sons, Tracy Dyer, Kevin Dean and Curt Dean; two daughters, Trydessa Dyer, and Susan (Mike) Bertani; grandsons, Terry Dyer, Nickolas Bertani and Andrew Dean; granddaughter, Kayla Dean; father, J.C. Dyer; brother, Robert (Betty) Dyer; four sisters, Charlotte Keil, Carolyn Delashmitt, Linda (Conrad) DeFriese and Peggy (Orville) Donahoo; several nieces and nephews. Wayne suffered many illnesses for the last 25 years, but has been respected and admired for his resilient spirit, his remarkable faith in the Lord, his positive attitude and sense of humor. All of us who knew him and loved him will miss him greatly, but will be better people because of him. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Burke and the Rev. Don Stovall officiating. Interment will be in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-8 Wednesday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.

Mary Lynn, I wanted to say "thanks" to you for being a positive influence in Waynes' and Tracy and Trydessa's lives. I am so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how difficult it is to loose a companion, but you can be proud of the fact that you made a difference in his life and the lives of his children. I did not get to know you, but I wanted you to know that I appreciate your love and concern for his children. You are in my prayers during this difficult time.

I knew Wayne when we were teenagers, he was a very special person. I have not seen him since those teenage years but my heart still broke when I saw his death in the paper. My sympathy to all.

So sorry about Wayne Dyer's death. He was a sweet, loving & caring person. Tracy & Trydessa, I feel your loss as I lost my Dad many years ago. Will be praying for you. Remember the good times with your Dad.

I remember Bro. Dyer from my teenage years, when Tracy and I ran around together at the General Assembly. My dad always had a great respect for Bro. Dyer. I lost my dad last Thanksgiving....and my mom in 2000. I'm sure they were waiting to welcome Bro. Dyer home! May God bless you with comfort and peace. Thinking and Praying for you all, Melinda Wright Jewell

Mary Lynn, I first knew Wayne when we were at Lee and remember him best when he was president of our state organization. He was smart, friendly, and sensitive. Years later when I learned that you and he had found each other, I couldn't have been happier. I know you will miss him terribly and will take comfort in knowing where he is. Heaven just became a little sweeter. You will be in our prayers in the days ahead. Love you much.

Wayne was the best PalPa and father-in-law that we could have ever asked for! We loved him and will miss him so much! I will always remember how he always made everyone laugh, and I'm sure he's continuing to do that in Heaven.

Love always,

Mary, Kayla, and Andrew

When someone says "Wayne Dyer," my mind automatically invisions the biggest smile on the planet! I remember Wayne from the time he was a teenager and he never greeted me without that smile. I also remember him as one of the most caring people I have known. What a wonderful testimony of the goodness of God that can exist in and through a human being when he is a willilng vessel. I pray for peace for you, the family. I know you will miss him dreadfully, but I rejoice with you that he is now with the One he served so faithfully. I look forward, with you, to seeing that big smile again!

With love and prayers,
Donna
