Wayne Fortson Obituary

Mr. Wayne Fortson, 80, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Wayne will certainly be missed by his wife of 58 years, Betty Ann Fortson; his children, John Fortson (Jennifer), Jeff Fortson (Kelly), and Jason Fortson; his grandchildren, Brai Philbeck, Cooper Forston, Landry Fortson, and Porter Fortson; great-granddaughter, Josephine Philbeck; sisters, Carolyn Barger and Dottie Wakefield, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Wayne was born in Elberton, Georgia and had lived in Savannah for a number of years. He was a graduate of Elbert County High School and North GA Technical College. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Chandler Fortson and Annie Ruth Parham Fortson, his siblings, Marion, Annie Lou, Jack, Don, and Johnnie. He retired from the trucking industry, had a big heart, and was known for wearing his "Indiana Jones" hats everywhere he went. He enjoyed music and the entertainment of Ray Stevens, Jerry Clower and Lewis Grizzard. He will be remembered for being a "kid at heart", a great husband, a very involved and loving father and grandfather, and most of all, a Christian.

The visitation will be on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The graveside funeral and burial will follow at 12 noon at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery located at 1600 Wheaton Street in Savannah, Georgia.
