Wayne L. Gerhardt, born July 26, 1931, in Mendon, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home in Cambria, California, on September 8, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 93 years old.
Wayne proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Following his service, he worked as a farmer in Sutter, Illinois, for 29 years before moving to California, where he became an avocado farmer in Cambria for 40 years.
On June 12, 1955, Wayne married Kathleen (Fiscalini) Gerhardt, his devoted wife of 69 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, hard work, and family. Wayne is survived by his children: Debbie Gerhardt Soto (Robert Soto) of Cambria, CA, and Gary Gerhardt (Lori Gerhardt) of Rhome, TX. Wayne and Kathleen were blessed with five grandchildren: Monte Soto (Kati), Melissa Carstairs (Tim), Abrie Denning (Chris), Evan Gerhardt (Marina), and Bryce Gerhardt (Danielle) and14 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Sandy (Steve) Pieper, and many loving nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edith (Kropp) Gerhardt; his brothers, Willis and Gene; an. d his sisters, Pauline, Gwen, and Dorothy.
A celebration of Wayne's life will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Cambria Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be private.
Wayne will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to farming, and his love for his family. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed. Memorials may be made to Bethany United Church of Christ of Tioga, Ill.
