Obituary published on Legacy.com by Calvary Mortuary - Beaumont on Dec. 16, 2025.
Wayne Goodwin was born on November 21, 1951, in
Center, Texas to the late Willie and Gertha Goodwin. The Goodwin family later relocated to
Orange, Texas where Wayne spent most of his years building lasting friendships and hosting family gatherings.
Wayne, also known to many as "Cat" - graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in the year 1970 where he excelled as a football player. He continued his love of football being a season ticket holder for West Orange Stark Mustangs!
He was the proud father of his only child, the late Tammie Arline, whom he loved dearly.
Wayne was united in marriage on June 12th, 1982, to the former Anitrea Champine. Spending more than 40-plus years together, they had a strong bond that only deepened through time. Their joys included traveling either by car, boat, or air; and hosting many events at their home for family and friends. You did not need a reason to just drop by their home and hang out; they absolutely loved having guests.
Demanding work was not foreign to Wayne. He was a member of the Labor Local #853 and retired from KBR at the Dupont facility. After retirement he loved spending time outdoors- whether taking immense pride in caring for his lawn or by just simply sitting outside and enjoying the quiet. He was a proud member of the "D Tree Crew" – a group who gathered daily to enjoy food and drinks, trade stories, discuss world events and support those in need in the community.
Not known as a man of many words, however, when he spoke, you listened. He was someone who did not judge but had a listening ear for those who needed one.
Wayne lived a very full life and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, daughter, and sister Barbara Jacobs.
Those left to celebrate his life are his dedicated wife, Anitrea Goodwin of
Orange, TX; brothers Robert (Hattie) Goodwin and Michael (Marie) Goodwin of Houston, TX, Donnie Goodwin of
Beaumont, TX, Willie Goodwin, Jr. of
Orange, TX; sister Janice (Jay) Adams of
Orange, TX; Aunt Hazel Brown of Longview, TX; Sister in Laws Mary Champine of Milwaukee, WI, Debbie (Eric) Rhodes of Dumfries, VA, Carolyn C Berry of
Orange, TX; Brother in Law Freddie Champine II of
Orange, TX; Nieces Yvette, Crystall, Yasmine, Raleesia, Kalishea and Sameka; Nephews Freddie III, Carl and Elijah; his Godchildren Lantisha, Joyleesia and Marqueshela; along with a host of Great Neices & Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with interment to follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens & Cemetery under the direction of Calvary Mortuary staff.
