Wayne Huggins, 87, returned to his heavenly home on January 10, 2023, at his home on his family farm. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle of failing health and ultimately gave him peace.
Nicholas Wayne Huggins, Sr., was the eldest son born to the late John and Lorene (Sparks) Huggins in Crowell, Texas on February 24, 1935. He graduated from Paint Creek High School in 1953.
Miss Frankie Mae Smith and Mr. Wayne Huggins at age 17 and 18 respectively, were united in marriage on November 15, 1953, in Avoca, Texas. Together the couple established a Christian home for 69 years, raised two sons with patience, discipline and humility. Wayne was a lifetime resident of Haskell and a member of the Paint Creek Baptist Church.
Wayne was an employee of Big Country Electric Cooperative in Stamford where he worked as a lineman and staked lines before retiring with 33 years of service. Wayne enjoyed the challenges of tilling the soil and the awaiting harvest, raising cattle, and training horses and bird dogs. He enjoyed time with his family at the farm riding horses and roping goats. And especially, he loved God's great creation. He found relaxation in his cherished hobby of fishing, lake time, and cooking fresh fish. And, last but not least, he liked being "Papaw".
Predeceased by his parents, John and Lorene Huggins; his son, Nicholas Wayne Huggins, II; his brother, Darrell Huggins.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Frankie Huggins of Sagerton, Texas; son, Timothy Alan Huggins, Sr. and wife Margaret of Avoca, Texas; daughter-in-law Sharon Huggins; 5 grandchildren: Jeremy Huggins, Tim Alan Huggins, Jr. and wife Claudia, Mark Huggins and wife Sonya, Nicole Huggins, and Bryan Huggins; 11 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 5:00 – 6:00 pm for Visitation at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) Stamford, Texas. Graveside Services will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Creek Cemetery at Avoca, Texas with Rev. Tony Grand officiating.
