Clarence Wayne Lockhart, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on February 27, 1941, in
Kingsport, Tennessee, Wayne spent his life surrounded by family, laughter, and a deep passion for his work and hobbies.
Wayne's early years were marked by an undeniable talent for sports. A gifted athlete, he played football and baseball with fervor and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, only to answer the call of duty by serving in the United States Air Force. His service to his country laid the foundation for a remarkable career in aeronautics, where he had the esteemed opportunity to work with the original astronauts, contributing to the legacy of space exploration.
His love for golf was legendary; not only did he enjoy playing the sport, but he also took joy in crafting his own golf clubs. With a heart full of generosity, he often purchased clubs for high school students who lacked the means to afford them, ensuring that the next generation could share in the joys of the game.
Wayne had a remarkable ability to lift the spirits of those around him. His humor was infectious, and he delighted in sharing jokes and laughter with friends and family. Beyond his career and community contributions, he was a dedicated collector of Hess Trucks, a hobby that brought him much joy.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Estelle Lockhart, as well as his daughter, Robin White-Lockhart.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lorraine Lockhart; his son, David Lockhart, and daughter-in-law, Tiffany Lockhart. His legacy will also continue through his grandchildren, Damon Lockhart (Jenna), Logan Hand (Dustin), Braden Lockhart (Kelly O'Neill), Gabe Ware (Pam), and Ellie Ware. Clarence also leaves behind the joy of his great-grandchildren, who will carry his memory forward, Liam Hancock, Laney Lockhart, Finnegan Lockhart, Tegan Ware, and Carsyn Ware; as well as his former daughter-in-law, Denise Reaves.
A cryptside service will be held in the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery on April 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Wayne's life.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of The Pines for their loving care of Wayne, as well as Lorraine.
