Wayne Lowman Obituary

Published by Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory - Valdese on Mar. 21, 2019.
Mr. Wayne Douglas Lowman, 56, of Connelly Springs, NC, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Grace Hospital, Morganton, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday March 24, 2019, at Hildebrand View Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his father, Harold Dean Lowman, Sr., and his nephew, Ricky Dean Hudson, Wayne is survived by his wife Benita C. Lowman; his son Clayton Lee Lowman; his mother Margaret Hildebran Lowman; his sister Debbie Lowman Hudson (husband Richard); his brother Harold Dean Lowman, Jr. (wife Cheryl); his parents-in-law Junior and Naomi Lowman; his sister-in-law Regina Lowman Hunt (husband Aaron); his sister-in-law Delta Lowman; many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers, and everyone who had the honor of knowing him and spending time in his company. Wayne and Benita were married for 32 years, and 17 years ago, they welcomed into this world their beloved son, Clayton Lee Lowman. It is a treasured memory to recall how, at birthday celebrations for Clayton, Wayne would become teary-eyed as he gave thanks for his son. As a dedicated member of Hildebrand View Baptist Church, Wayne served as a deacon for 36 years and sang with joy and conviction for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Recently, he also served as a WeBeLos leader for BSA Cub Scout Pack #788. Wayne was an East Burke High School graduate and a Western Piedmont Community College graduate, with an associate degree in civil engineering. He was an avid hunter, but with his September illness, Wayne did not have the opportunity to spend time in the woods hunting, as he would have liked. He loved dogs and kept them all his life, whether hunting dogs or pets, including his current dogs, Doc and Sprout. Just one short year ago, Wayne became employed by A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc., in a working environment which gave him great fulfillment, doing the engineering work he loved in the company of supervisors and co-workers he valued and who valued him. He did surveying work for seven years prior to that. His face would light up as he discussed methods of surveying and how to evaluate the findings. He was proud to tell how he had the opportunity to stand in places no one had ever stepped onto before to survey because it was such rough terrain. During the past several months, as Wayne confronted his cancer diagnosis, he maintained his strong faith in God's will and made many friends among the medical staff at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. His family gives thanks for them and for everyone who has offered prayers, encouragement, support, gifts, memory-sharing visits, and love during this time. Gratitude, too, is extended to the emergency room staff at Grace Hospital for medical and emotional support during Wayne's final hours on March 21st. Wayne's large extended family is grateful beyond measure for his humble, unassuming presence these 56 years, always smiling and ready to help however he could. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., at Hildebrand View Baptist Church, off the George Hildebrand School Road, with the funeral service at 4 p.m. Pastor Larry Nantz of Hildebrand View Baptist Church and Rev. Don Crusenberry of Mountain View Baptist Church, Albemarle, will lead the service. In lieu of flowers, donations for medical expenses may be made to: SECU FBO Benita C. I was Wayne's Advisor and Instructor at Western Piedmont Community College. I can still remember Wayne coming to see me for the first time about taking classes here at the college. I could tell that he was nervous about going back to school. However, he became one of my finest students, always willing to try and to learn new things. I had no idea that he was so sick and I am very sorry to hear about his passing. He was a fine man and I know that he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
