Wayne Moorman Obituary

Wayne Charles Moorman, 84, of Laurel, Montana, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Sunday morning, December 7th 2025 surrounded by love with his wife, Barbara, holding his hand. He was born August 6, 1941, the youngest of three children, to Everett and Mollie Moorman in Laurel. He attended Laurel Schools and graduated in 1961. He furthered his education first at Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, Minnesota, where he met his wife Barbara, whom he married on June 16th,1964. He then returned to Laurel and received his Bachelor's degree in education from Eastern Montana College in 1966.

He began his teaching career in Roundup and then moved his family to Bridger, where they bought a ranch near Bluewater Creek. He spent many fulfilling years working on the ranch with Barb and in later years, alongside his son, Michael. At the same time, he was also a beloved elementary teacher and coach in Bridger. In 1985 he moved from coaching junior high track to high school girls volleyball. He led the Lady Scouts, along with his faithful assistant coaches and his wife always by his side, to 10 state championships until he retired from coaching in 2018, many years after retiring from teaching. He was able to coach all of his daughters and was honored to be a role model to many young people. His legacy lives on through all the lives he touched.

After retiring from teaching, coaching and ranching he and Barb enjoyed Camp Castle Rock in Gallatin Gateway. It had a special place in his heart due to his family attending camps there. Wayne also enjoyed being surrounded by his kids and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his hearty laugh and love of teasing his family with his shenanigans, always blaming it on "Herman".

Wayne was a faithful servant, teacher and leader at First Baptist Church in Laurel. He joined the membership in 1953 when the church was first organized, making him the last surviving original member. He deeply strived to serve the Lord with all his heart.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and their children Toni (Dale) Berger, Heidi (Jeremy) Conard, Michael (Donna) Moorman, Jodi (Brent) Fincham, and Marci Bunker. He will also be fondly remembered by his 11 grandchildren: Erica Berger, Nicole Berger, Bailey Conard, Brittney Conard, Natalie Conard, Cohen Conard, Mikayla Moorman, Madison Moorman, Michael Moorman, Brooke (Brayden) Bill, and Quinn Fincham. Along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mollie; siblings, Everett Moorman and Lorraine Greeno and his daughters Robin Ann and Traci Jean Moorman.

A service to celebrate Wayne's life will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Laurel. Interment will follow at the Rockvale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church or Castle Rock Baptist Camp in c/o First Baptist Church, 400 7th Ave., Laurel MT 59044, honoring Wayne's commitment to his faith and community.

8am phoenix class by Inez Vaught got him back on academic track, a high school track memory was when first year coach Bob Graham got verbally and physically pushy and Wayne gave him a knuckle sandwich. Hot rod cars were the rage in high school but Wayne drove his model A with pride. After his rocky start academically, he was never not on the honor roll or the dean's list in school. He could have been a Laurelaire but the choreography/dance was against what his church believed so he passed the opportunity. 20 years after high school graduation it was surprising to me that he was a rancher but the teacher aspect was not a surprise. His entry into the National girls volleyball hall of fame was quite and honor and for him to be the featured speaker at there annual conference one year was quite an honor. It was an honor to be called his friend. Doug Allan
