Wayne Rhea, 91, of Liberty Hill, Texas passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 27, 2024, in Bertram, Texas.
Wayne was born in Seiling, Oklahoma, to Robert and Mamie Guffy Rhea on June 9, 1933. Seiling was home to the Rheas until 1942 when they relocated to Austin, Texas where they were a part of the Bailey Park Community. He attended Austin High School, where he was a member of the football, baseball, and track teams. Wayne athleticism earned him a track scholarship from the University of Texas, despite his love for the Oklahoma Sooners football team. Shortly after, he joined the United States Army and is a Veteran of the Korean War. On March 29, 1963, he married Barbara Dean Rhea in Austin, Texas. He worked as an Electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 37 years. Wayne was actively involved in the Local 520 IBEW Union and was a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church where he served the congregation as a Deacon.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mamie Rhea, sister Peggy Saunders, and brothers, Bob and Keith Rhea.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Barbara Dean Rhea; Daughter Rosemary Wallace and her husband, Jim Wallace of Leander, son Bret Rhea and Yvonne Jeffrey of Hondo, Texas; Daughter Laina Rhea Merkord and husband Justin Merkord of Weir, Texas; grandsons Ryan DeVeau of Memphis, Tennessee, Colin Rhea of San Diego, California, and JR Wallace and wife Mady Wallace of Liberty Hill, granddaughter Katie Rhea of Brenham, Texas, and Ashton Merkord and fiancé Kutter Burnett of Medicine Mounds, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Ryan DeVeau, Colin Rhea, Kutter Burnett, Chris Wagner, James Roe, Scott Neely, and honorary pallbearers Doyle Crawford, and Mike Knudson.
The Rhea family would like to thank the nurses of Bertram Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and Enhabit Home Health Hospice Nurses who were with him every step of the way.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. A visitation service will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home 5600 Willams Drive Georgetown, Texas 78633.
Funeral services will be held graveside at 10 am on Thursday, January 2, 2025, with preacher Gavan Rorie officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Fore Cemetery at 1880 County Road 289 Georgetown, Texas 78633. Arrangements are provided by Ramsey Funeral Home.
