Wayne Michael Simpson, of Elcho, died on June 24, 2025 at his home. He was 82 years old. He was born on March 6, 1943 in Milwaukee, a son of Pete Simpson and Mildred (Weiss) Traver. Beloved husband and best friend of Kathy Simpson for over 40 years.
He was a graduate of Custer High School Class of 1961. Wayne was an inventory manager at Miller Can Plant in Milwaukee. He was also active in the Wisconsin National Guard. Wayne retired to Elcho in 2003.
Wayne loved classic cars and car shows. He would often work on his own restoration projects, from a 60's Thunderbird to his current 85' Mustang Convertible. In his youth, he spent time drag racing at Great Lakes Drag Way and Lovers Lane in Milwaukee. Wayne was passionate about boats, fishing, and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Sno-Birds of Menominee Falls and Sno-Devils of Elcho. Wayne was also an animal lover, throughout his life having many dog and cat companions, his dogs, Ernie, Scooter, and Buster; and cats, Kelly, Lucky, and Goofy.
In addition to his wife Kathy, survivors include two daughters, Jody (Robert Kihn) Leonhardt Kihn and Tracy (Matthew) Whitaker; eight grandchildren, Alex (Amanda) Leonhardt, Cassidy (Kasie Viste) Simpson-Leonhardt, Marienna Leonhardt, Nicholas Kihn, Cody (Tori) Whitaker, Camden Whitaker, Colton (Christina) Whitaker, and Nicole Whitaker; eight great-grandchildren, Dj Leonhardt, Alayna Leonhardt, Lilah Whitaker, Emery Whitaker, Mia Whitaker, Madison Whitaker, Natalie Whitaker, and Ella Whitaker; two nephews, Jason Ritzel and Michael (Diana) Ritzel; and many friends and relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Sue Ritzel; and brother, James Traver.
