Wayne Sovich Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 6, 2026.
Wayne M. Sovich, a cherished family man and respected member of his community, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on January 29, 1939, in Gary, Indiana, Wayne's life was one of dedication, hard work, and boundless love for his family and friends.

Wayne's journey began as the son of Michael and Geraldyne (nee Samuelson) Sovich. His early years in Gary were filled with the laughter and warmth of a loving family. Wayne attended local schools, where he completed his education, forming friendships and values that would last a lifetime. After finishing high school, Wayne honorably served his country as an Army veteran, demonstrating the courage and patriotism that would define much of his life.

On April 27, 1962, Wayne married his sweetheart, Carolyn nee Dille, and together they built a life full of joy and purpose. Their loving union was blessed with a large and spirited family, including their son Tim Sovich, daughters Carrie Hoyt, Kathy Murley, and Kim (Jim) Catherine. Wayne's role as a father was one he cherished deeply, guiding and supporting his children with a steady hand and an open heart.

Wayne's commitment to his family was matched only by his dedication to his work and community. He was a proud member of the Labor Union Local 81, where he formed lasting friendships and earned the respect of his colleagues. His involvement with the American Legion and Eagles further exemplified his commitment to service and camaraderie.

Wayne's sisters, Monica (Rich) Brown and Sue Olson and sister-in-law Cheryl Bartholomew, will fondly remember their brother for his unwavering support and infectious sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Carolyn, his son-in-law Larry Hoyt, and brothers-in-law Don Olson and Bruce Bartholomew. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Jonas (Sara), Angela (Tony), Spencer, Collin, Sean, Faith, Annabel, James, Elisabeth, Christian, and his two great-grandchildren Penny and Lucy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

An avid fisherman, Wayne found solace and joy in the quiet moments by the water. He was a familiar face at local sports events, proudly watching his grandchildren play and cheering them on with gusto. His faith was important to him, and he was an active member of the Heartland Christian Center, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community.

Wayne M. Sovich lived a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and an unwavering commitment to his family and fellow man. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A visitation and viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026. There will be celebration of life at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Graceland Cemetery Chapel, 1505 Morthland Dr., Valparaiso, 46383, (219) 462-3511.
