Wayne Watson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kennedy Funeral Home - Robbins on Sep. 8, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Wayne Watson passed away at home peacefully, on September 5, 2025.

Wayne was a graduate of North Moore High School and drove a bus while still a student. He worked at Milliken during school , Standard Trucking company slinging freight on the dock, Burlington Industries as truck driver/deliverer, and over 25 years with the North Carolina Department of Correction, retiring as a Correctional Sergeant.

Wayne loved his family and friends, never met a stranger

He enjoyed the outdoors, calling it "communing with nature". Hunting, fishing, skiing. In later years did less of that and more travelling. In recent years, Wayne had taken to travelling throughout the western part of the United States, exploring like a wild nomad through the Badlands of South Dakota to stand on Four Corners further south. Other times he would travel to Florida, reaching the end of the United States in Key West and travel abroad on cruise ships to the Bahamas. Long retired and grown listless, he wanted to see what he had not.

Battling 'The Big C', he took surgeries and treatments in stride, down at times, but never out, he took all setbacks in stride, aware of his own mortality but never forgetting to live.

He was a son of the late Charles Wilton and Ellie Mae Garner Watson.

He is survived by sons: Jason Matthew Watson and Christopher Wayne Watson, and Rottweiler/Beagle mix: Pup Pup.

The family will receive friends at Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins on Thursday September 11, 2025 between 6-8pm.

Though a cancer survivor, Wayne's biggest medical fear was Alzheimer's, a disease that took his own father. Any donations should be directed to Alzheimer's research and care in his honor.

This is not an ending but a celebration of a life moved on. Like his adventurous travels on Earth, he begins the greatest one past this realm into the Great Unknown. Celebrate the time you spent with Wayne.

Kennedy Funeral Home is serving the Watson family.
