Weldon Willard Black, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away on September 9, 2024, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Born on December 11, 1932, in Cardwell, Missouri, to Floyd and Sarah (Goss) Black. Weldon lived a life rich with his wife, children, family, and friends.
Weldon was a devoted husband to his late wife, Betty Louise (Vines) Black, who predeceased him after 63 years of marriage. Together, they built a family that spanned generations, leaving a lasting legacy through their children and grandchildren. Weldon is survived by his daughters, Shirley (Roger) Harbour, Joyce (Delton) Hughes, Loretta Black (Brent Roach), Latricia (Jackie) Robbins, and son Daniel (Barbara) Black. His loving family also includes 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, each who carry forward the warmth and values he instilled in them, sisters Faye Rowland (Bill Shadden), Betty Godwin Black, Sue (Terry) Martin.
Weldon's life was marked by the profound loss of his beloved wife Betty, his daughter Carolyn Stanley, his grandsons Johnny Dale Summitt and BJ Douglas, granddaughter Susie Garner. Preceding him in death were both parents, his brothers Junior and Lloyd Black, and sisters Laverne Black, Lorene Bryant, and Jewel Bryant. Despite these losses, Weldon demonstrated strength and resilience, qualities that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service in memory of Weldon will be held on September 13, 2024, at Union Hill Jesus Name Church at 10:00 am. With Bro. Brent Roach Officiating. Pallbearers will be Darris Hughes, Hoot Hughes, Buckshot (Nathaniel) Black, Jeremy Brandon, Trent Black, Christian Casey, Randy Casey, Davie Merritt, Brian McClure, Alex Baker. Honorary Pallbearers are Tim Douglas and Anthony Brandon. Burial will be at Reed Cemetery in Story, AR. followed by a lunch back at Union Hill Church.
Weldon was a very hardworking man. He was most proud of the 30 years he worked at the Mount Ida Sawmill. His passion was Wheeling and Dealing, literally trading the shoes off his feet going home bare foot. Until his passing, he was blessed to live in the family home Betty and him built together.
