Weldon Wayne (Bob) Roberts, departed this life on Oct. 24, 2023 at the age of 89. He was a devoted husband to Nettie Bob and a loving father to his daughters Kim Harrison and Paula Mailloux.
Bob shared a deep and enduring love of 65 years with his wife, Nettie Bob. Together, they created a bond of love, respect and friendship.
As a father, Bob leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance for his daughters. His influence on their lives has been immeasurable, instilling in them the values of honesty, integrity, determination, a good work ethic and how to stay true to themselves. He will forever be a guiding light in their lives.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Bob is survived by his sons-in-law Doug Harrison and Keith Mailloux. He was proud to be the loving 'Daddy Bob' to five grandsons, Scott and Clint Harrison and Craig, Luc and Zach Mailloux along with their wives Joni, Jessica and Kristen. Bob was also blessed with 7 great grandchildren.
Bob was born in Robert Lee, Texas to Effie and Powell Roberts. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Oral, Aubrey and Jack Roberts and sisters, Christine Murtishaw and Edna Gillit.
Bob served in the US Marines, 1954-1956, earning the National Defense Service Medal. Bob worked for El Paso Natural Gas for over 35 years, beginning in the field department and ending his career as a Chief Pipeline Inspector.
He was a self-taught man with a god given talent to create and construct many a project. While his talents weren't on the artistic level, he was blessed with the ability to build practical, useful creations.
Bob's backyard shop was a gathering place for neighbors and friends to stop in and visit. They were always happy to watch Bob work on his projects and frequently helped.
He built many truck campers for himself and others, some of which may still be in use today. Bob even made his own fiberglass boat for fishing down the Rio Grande.
In his younger days, Bob was a member of the Rio Grande fishing club. He and a group of likeminded men would spend a week boating and fishing down the Rio Grande. After every trip, the group shared their catch with a large family fish-fry. The fun-filled trips resulted in a lifetime of friendships.
Bob built two homes, the first one in Cloudcroft, NM, followed by a home near Lake Nasworthy on the outskirts of San Angelo.
Bob was a true example of generosity, always quietly offering a helping hand or giving to those in need without seeking any recognition or praise. His selfless acts remained concealed behind a humble and unassuming demeanor, a testament to his genuine kindness.
Bob was a member of Southgate Church of Christ. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bob will be held on Monday, Oct. 30th at 2:00 PM, Harper Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to attend and pay their respects.
Memorials may be made to West Texas Boys Ranch of San Angelo, TX (www.wtbr.org) or San Angelo Christian Academy (www.sanangelochristianacademy.org).
