Wendell Henry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whigham Funeral Home on Jun. 28, 2024.
Wendell Vincent Henry was born in Dade City,
Florida to the late Julius Henry Jr. and Mary Thelma Henry. At an early age, he was Baptized at
Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in Dade City. The Henrys relocated to Newark, New Jersey in 1970 where Wendell attended the Newark Public Schools. He later attended Hillside High School where he met the love of his life (Vida) and was a star athlete, playing both football and basketball for the Hillside Comets. After graduating high school, he received a football scholarship to Missouri Valley College, Marshall,
Missouri. After his college education, Wendell and Vida reconnected and rekindled their love to one another and were married on June 24, 1989. To this union, two daughters were born: Tiana Nicole (who preceded him in death) and Tierra Alexis. During this time, he worked at First Fidelity, (now known as Wells Fargo), for over 20 years, and later transitioned into working as an independent contractor for various courier companies. In 2006, the family relocated to Concord, North Carolina where Wendell continuously commuted between Newark and Concord for
work purposes. During his lifetime, Wendell was a big family man and an even bigger girl dad. He loved his two daughters. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed his annual cruises. His favorite destinations being the Caribbean, and more specifically Aruba, as well as his home state of Florida. Wendell was also a huge sports fanatic. Michael Jordan was his all-time favorite, but his favorite thing to do was to lay in front of the TV with his dog, Blue, and switch between all the different sporting channels to catch each game until he fell asleep. His favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox, NY Mets, the Giants, and the University of Notre Dame football and basketball. Above all, Wendell loved the Lord Jesus Christ and he faithfully attended and worshipped at First Missionary Baptist Church, in Concord,
North Carolina with his family. His beautiful life will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved and knew him best, including his devoted and loving wife of 35 years, Vida Henry; a daughter, Tierra Henry;
siblings, Raashida N. Henry, Ebony N. Henry, Monice S. Henry-Foster, Archie W. Henry and a host of aunts, uncles,
cousins, friends and loved ones. "TIME IS NOT MEASURED BY CLOCKS, BUT
