Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 30, 2025.
Wendy Yolanda Smith, 62, died on September 24, 2025 in the Bronx, New York. Born in Charleston, South Carolina on August 13,1963, she was the daughter of the late Juanita Smith and Jasper Washington. Wendy was preceded in death by her sister, Myra Fair, and her grandmother, Geneva Watson Smith. She grew up in Moncks Corner and was a 1981 graduate of Berkeley High School. In 1985, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. From 1989 to 1993, she was an employee of Home Box Office (HBO) in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1993, Wendy moved to the Bronx and was an affiliate marketing associate with HBO/Time Warner until 2004. She was a program planning and scheduling manager with Cablevision from 2004 to 2009. From 2009 to 2013, she was a staff member in the Office of the Registrar at Lehman College, a college of The City University of New York (CUNY) public university system. She was a media coordinator with AMC Networks from 2013 until her retirement in 2022.

Although Wendy maintained strong lifelong ties to her native South Carolina, she also established deep roots in New York City, especially in her adopted Bronx neighborhood, Co-op City. From high school to college to career and beyond, she cultivated a diverse network of friends and coworkers. Wendy will be remembered for her joyful personality and sense of humor, love for animals, and caring heart. She developed a great talent for crocheting and sewing and often donated her creations to support animal welfare organization fundraisers.

Loved and admired by many, Wendy was a courageous warrior in the face of an extended illness. She is survived by a host of friends and family members. McCall's Bronxwood Funeral Home, 4035 Bronxwood Avenue, Bronx, NY, handled the cremation arrangements.
