Wesley Dean Davis

Wesley Dean "Dave" Davis passed away peacefully January 10, 2026 in Dunn, NC at Betsy Johnson Hospital.
Wesley, Dave, as he was known to most, was born the 4th of 7 children on December 3, 1936 to John and Norma Davis in Duluth Minnesota. After joining the Navy in 1955, he served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and helped commission 2 ships before retiring as Chief Petty Officer E7 after 21 years of service. He then went on to work for the Virginia Department of Corrections where he was a Maintenance Superintendent when he retired after over 20+ years of service.
In 1965 he married Polly Singletary. They celebrated 28 years together before she passed away in 1993. They had 3 children, L. Dean Davis, Norma Herrmann and Clifton Davis as well as 10 grandchildren, Kevin Davis, Jeremy Davis, Jason Davis, Bryan Davis, Seth Purvis, Ian Guthrie, Abigail Davis, Erica Davis, Ava Davis and Emma Davis.
Dave was an avid fisherman, preferring nothing more than to be on the water with a fishing pole in his hand. He loved being outdoors either fishing or just sitting on the porch with his beloved dog, Andie, enjoying a beautiful day. If the weather was not suitable for being outdoors, you could find him at his kitchen table working a puzzle or reading in his favorite chair.
Known for his quick wit, you never knew what he would say or do. You were always assured of a laugh when he was around.
Dave is predeceased by his wife, Polly, parents John and Norma, grandson Bryan and brothers Lynn, Larry, Babe (Duane) and Boyd. Remaining to cherish his memory are his children Dean and his wife Patricia, Norma and her husband Chris, Clifton, sister Judy Klug and her husband Vern and brother Russell Davis as well as 9 of his grandchildren. He will also be remembered fondly by his in-laws Gail and Buster Davis and Edward and Leslie Singletary along with many nieces and nephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the American Diabetes Association. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 11AM with full military honors and Pastor James "Bubba" Pugh residing.
