Wesley Roy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory (Yakima) - Moxee on Aug. 25, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Wesley Clayton Roy, 74, of Moxee, WA, passed into the loving arms of his best friend, Jesus Christ, on August 22, 2025.

Wes was born November 16, 1950, in Yakima, WA, the fifth of six children born to William Arthur and Edythe Laverne (Wood) Roy. His family moved to Fintry, British Columbia, Canada, when Wes was one year old. Wes learned to ride horses, and he helped his dad on cattle drives in the mountains. Wes began his education in a one-room school where there were nine kids, five of them Roys. Wes had fond memories of his time living in Canada and often shared stories of his time there.

When Fintry was sold, the family moved to Federal Way, WA, where his mom thought the family would get a better education. His dad purchased a motel. After a year, the family moved back to British Columbia, further north, and settled in a small community named Armstrong. Wes loved being back in Canada and felt that was where he belonged. His dad farmed potatoes for a few years, and then the family moved to Moxee, where Wes continued his education. While his dad was working in real estate, Wes attended St. Paul School and Robertson Grade School.

In 1969, Wes's first child, Dennis Roy, was born. Wes graduated from Grandview Tech in auto and diesel mechanics. He worked in the mechanic field for several years, mostly on tractors. Then Wes began working for the Dept. of Natural Resources in Chehalis, WA, where he planted trees. Wes's heart was always in farming and working the land. His dad offered him an opportunity to farm with him, and he was able to work the land with family.

Wes met Karen Coburn in Kalispell, Montana. He brought her back to the family farm, where they married and had three children, Justin, Anthony, and Daniel. Due to family drama, Wes moved Karen and their three boys to Connell, WA, where he continued working in farming. Wes earned his CDL, where he hauled potatoes to the spud cellars and then long-hauled seed potatoes from Wyoming and the western United States. He put a million miles on his truck and had no accidents or cargo loss. Wes moved his family to Moxee and worked for Richardson Enterprises, driving truck for apples and packing houses.

In 1986, Wes gave his life to Jesus Christ and was born again.

In 1990, Wes met Sandy Cavanaugh, where their 35-year story began. Sandy brought her two daughters, Rhonda and Heather, to the family.

Over the years, Wes and Sandy enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and welcoming grandchildren. One adventure they truly loved was traveling the Holy Land and being baptized in the Jordan River. Wes enjoyed sharing his love for horses by ensuring all of his grandkids, along with many other children, got to ride on his horses. Before being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Wes spent a lot of time working the land on his numerous properties.

Wes is survived by Sandy Roy, three sons, Justin Roy of Missoula, MT, Anthony (Kristy), and Daniel (Stephanie), all of Yakima, his stepdaughters, Rhonda Cavanaugh of Belize and Heather Cavanaugh of Tacoma, WA, and his adopted daughter, Alisha Blakely of Kennewick.

He was a proud grandfather to Violet (Patrick) Ferguson, Tia Bennett, Sage Ancheta, Audry (Eli) Schultz, Devin Mackie, Emma Cavanaugh, Vaughn Heath, Nathaniel Magana, Izaya Magana, Faith Bennett, Elizabeth Roy, Thorin Roy, Luke Roy, and Brett Roy, and is also remembered by his faithful mustang, Blue.

He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gary, Stan, and Kenny Roy, sisters, MaryAnn Holtzinger and Carolyn Roy, and a son, Dennis Bennett.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 5:00–8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home in Moxee. Graveside service will be held on Friday, August 29th, at 10:00 AM at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Moxee.
