With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Wesley Shields, age 72, of Kyle, Texas on December 26, 2025. Wesley was born in Austin, Texas on April 2, 1953.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Shields; his son, John Shields; and two daughters, Stephanie Johle (married to Derik Johle) and Jamie Shields (Partner Michael Stover); and four grandchildren, Caden Johle, Jaxon Johle, Sydney Stover and Lane Stover.
Wesley was a lifelong plumber, known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help anyone in need. When he wasn't working, he could be found hunting in the woods or saltwater fishing, happiest with a rod in his hands and the sun on his face. Behind his tough exterior was a loving father. He taught his children the value of hard work, honesty, and showing up for family and friends-lessons that will carry on through generations. His legacy lives on not only in memories, but in the character, determination, and strength he instilled in those he loved most. He will be remembered as a father who taught by doing, loved without condition, and left an indelible mark on his family that will never fade.
A visitation with family and friends to gather and share stories and memories of Wes's life will take place at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home on Monday, January 5, 2026 from 1pm-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you share snacks and treats to the staff at Lost Pines Nursing Facility in Wes's memory as a gesture of thanks. They can be dropped off or sent to the attention of Melanie Smith, Bastrop Lost Pines Nursing & Rehab, 430 Old Austin Hwy, Bastrop, TX 78602.
