Wesley Taylor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greene Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel on Jan. 6, 2026.
Wesley Dean Taylor, 54, of York, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2025. He was born on November 30, 1971, in Hampton, Va. His parents moved their young family back to Pineyview, WV, where they stayed. A devoted husband, and father, Wesley, loved and served the Lord faithfully.

Wesley was preceded in death by his father, Roger Dean Taylor, grandparents Virgil and Bertha Taylor as well as Gene & Shirley Sweeney. He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Wendy, and their two daughters, Sophia and Eva; mother, Nancy Taylor Carfrey and her husband Dan; brother, Clinton; cousin-more like a sister, Sherry Taylor, and fiancé, Aaron Marlow; In-laws, Don & Cheryl Boblett; sister-in-law, Tracy Douglas and her husband Jeff, and a nephew, Adam Farrell. Wesley is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Wesley loved adventure and making the most of every day. He was known by his friends for being athletic and playing a variety of sports. He loved golf, disc golf, and fishing. When he
was able, he enjoyed snowboarding and in his younger years he was an avid skateboarder as well as spending a lot of time water skiing. He loved basketball and had the honor of playing when his high school team won the 1988 National Association of Christian Athletes National Championship. Wes loved watching WVU Mountaineers men's basketball, football, and baseball. He could remember an unbelievable number of stats.

Wesley worked as a contractor/estimator for Foundation Repair Services for over 15 years. Before that he was a Sr. CADD technician and Crew Chief for Survey & Mapping Control. Wes was ordained as a deacon on August 29, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

One of Wesley's greatest joys was coming home to his girls who adored him and planning trips for his family down to the last detail. He loved looking at maps and would constantly find the most beautiful, scenic route possible. One nickname the family gave him was GP Wes.

Determined not to let his cancer diagnosis get the best of him, he took up woodworking and wood carving and surprised many with his creativity. He was forever the optimist and rarely let his daily struggles hinder his ability to crack a joke or bring a smile to someone's face. Though he will be sorely missed, his legacy of faith, loyalty to family, friends, and his work will continue to set an example for those he leaves behind.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 24, 2026, beginning at 10:00am at First Baptist Church Rock Hill, 481 Hood Center Dr, Rock Hill, SC 29730. The Celebration Of Life service will follow at 11:30am, officiated by Senior Pastor, Steve Hogg.
