Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith-Gallo Funeral Home - Guthrie on Oct. 23, 2025.
One of Cecil William and Blanche Lee (Ruess) Wehr's eleven children, Wesley Dean Wehr was born on August 2, 1950 at Benedictine Heights Hospital in
Guthrie, Oklahoma. Seventy-five years and only thirteen miles away from the place he was born, Dean laid down to go to sleep and woke up in the arms of his Savior on October, 19, 2025.
Having such a large family, Cecil and Blanche knew it was vital for their children to understand the meaning of a hard day's work. Dean was no exception as he learned many skills throughout his life including, but certainly not limited to, starting horses with his dad, working on cars and doing flooring installation, which he did alongside his brothers Dennis, Kenny, Ron and Harold. Attention to detail is what set Dean's work apart. Each little piece had to be perfect before he would call a job complete.
Around the time he turned twenty years old, Dean made the most important decision of his life when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized as a declaration of his faith. For several years, Dean attended Southside Baptist Church in Guthrie. When opportunity presented itself, Dean would witness to others of God's saving grace. Dean would tell how it was God's grace that spared his life in 1979 after a drunk driver ran into his wrecker truck shoving it up and over Dean's body. The emergency team in the ambulance worked to revive Dean on the way to the hospital as his heart would stop multiple times during the drive. Seems as though God was not finished with him just yet.
On October 21, 1994, Dean married Teresa Luree (Willson). Together they worked the wrecker service and made use of Dean's carpentry skills to remodel several of their own homes in their thirty-one years of marriage.
Dean's attention to detail could be best seen in the cars he restored over the years. There were many beginning with the first car Dean ever owned when he was twelve years old. Up till the day he was called home, Dean had project cars he was working on. Family stories include restoration of a '65 Corvette that eventually made its way onto the cover of a Corvette magazine along with having the police called on him anytime he took his 1987 Mazda RX7 he powered with a 383 Stroker out for a turn around the block. Dean's car adventures were limitless.
Dean loved his vehicles and attended car and truck shows with his family. Together, Dean, Teresa, Wayne and Joyce traveled to many car shows including Corvette meets with a few of "Wayno's" personal cars. He especially loved to watch his son, Nathan, race his diesel trucks and was more than proud to see Nathan compete at the National Hot Rod Diesel Association World Finals. Dean was known to do his own share of drag racing which was not always sanctioned or at a track. On or off the track, cars Dean built were more than competitive just as Dean himself was. Among one of the last events Dean attended the past couple of years was Lifted Truck Nationals to support his daughter-in-law, Darlene, with the truck she had built as part of the family tradition.
Dean was a business man. In the mid '70s, he opened a towing company on Division Street in Guthrie, Wehr's Wrecker Service. Next door to the wrecker business, Dean and his previous wife, Connie, owned and operated the 'Dairy Maid'.
In 1995, the towing business had a name change to Dean's Wrecker Service. Any given day or time, you would see his white trucks with blue lettering and a "Deano" tag on the front, while out working wrecker calls. When his grandsons, John and Justin, would come to visit as toddlers, they heard Dean answer calls so many times the boys would not even look up from playing with their toy cars when the phone rang to exclaim, "Papa Dean's Wrecker!"
No one would have ever guessed the younger, self proclaimed "Little Badass" who could hold his own in a scrap would become a grandfather who would melt for two little rough and tumble boys. 'Papa Dean' loved his grandsons immeasurably and enjoyed being in their company.
Another of Dean's passions was horses. Not surprisingly, he liked them just as much as he liked his cars… with a lot of 'chrome', four white legs and a blaze face. Dean was around horses at an early age thanks to his father. He learned how to start under saddle the colts he raised with Cecil's guidance and enjoyed taking them on pleasure rides. Eventually, Dean would learn the sport of Team Penning, and would compete together with his brother, Dennis, and sister, Sandy. It has been said, "I pray God will never let me know the last time I ride a horse". Dean was blessed to take his last ride on his old mare, 'Bunny', just hours before his homegoing. Dean Wehr made his final ride then went to see all those who went before him.
Dean is preceded in death by his mother, Blanche; father, Cecil; beloved son, Nathan; sisters, Eva Graham, Rena 'Katie' Stegall, and Pennie Sue Wehr; brothers, Wayne Wehr, Harold Wehr, and Kenneth Wehr; father-in-law, Robert Willson; and his favorite canine companion, 'Pea-Pie'.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa; her daughter, Patrice Moeller (Manuel); her son, Jake Ward; grandchildren, Lorelei and Ronan Moeller; daughter-in-law, Darlene Wehr (Nathan); grandsons, John Wehr (Elizabeth) and Justin Wehr (Serenity); bonus-granddaughter, Sierra Bratton (Luis); great-grandsons, Weston Wehr and Laramie Wehr (due January, 2026); great-granddaughter, Abigail Lynn Wehr (due November, 2025); sisters, Darlene Decker (Mike) and Sandy Minnich (John); brothers, Dennis Wehr (Carla) and Ron Wehr (Cathy); sister-in-laws, Joyce Wehr (Wayne) and Sharon Wehr (Harold); along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will remember Dean through the many stories of his adventures they will tell.
