Wesley Whiteside Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2025.
Wesley Earl Whiteside was born on the family farm outside of Chillicothe Missouri on August 28, 1932, the third child of Earl Franklin Whiteside and Bessie Amelia (Miller) Whiteside. He enjoyed a career in the Extension Service in Missouri and Iowa, and in 1974 became an independent home builder in Bettendorf Iowa until retirement. He was a 1993 founding member of Quad Cities Habitat for Humanity, and headed the site selection committee for many years. He and Marilyn moved to Minnesota in 2014 to be closer to family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Marilyn Whiteside, brother Dale Whiteside, and his sister Virginia Lee Jones.

Wes is survived by his two daughters, Shirley Whiteside (Byron Plumley) and Paula W. Holmes (Ted Holmes), four grand children: Anne Dubler (John), Katie Swartz (Paul), Emily Samsel (William) and Nick Holmes (Katie), seven great grandchildren, his sister -in-law Marilou Whiteside, and many nieces and nephews.

Wes died after a brief hospitalization following a major stroke. A memorial service is planned for October 16, 11:00, at the Ebenezer Care Center chapel in Burnsville MN. A burial service will be held at a later date in Chillicothe, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities https://give.habitatqc.org/checkout/7269 or Liberty United Methodist Church in Chillicothe Missouri.
