Wilber Richards Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brunswick Funeral Service - Southport-Oak Island Chapel on Mar. 6, 2026.
Wilber Thomas Richards, 78, of Leland, North Carolina, passed peacefully at home on February 19, 2026.

Born to Elvin Vernon Richards and Mary Day, Wilber lived a life marked by dedication, humility, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. As a proud Union truck driver, he worked faithfully and honorably, providing for his family with quiet determination and strength.

Wilber was preceded in death by his daughter, Penny Richards, and his wife, Sissy. He leaves behind his sons, Clifford T. Richards, Eddie Richards, and Scott Richards, along with seven beloved grandchildren: Brandon, Megan, Savannah, Abigail, Joyanna, Lucas, and Penny.

He also leaves behind four brothers and two sisters. Three brothers have passed: Elvin, Jack, and Clifford. His brother Kenny is the last surviving brother and his two sisters, Mary Lou Diaz and Kathy Nelson.

Above all else, Wilber loved his family. He cherished simple, intimate moments - laughing, joking, sharing stories, and playing music together. He never met a stranger. The soft strength of his presence gave his family a deep sense of security.

Wilber loved the Lord and encouraged everyone to trust in Him during times of trouble. He sought to pass on the wisdom he had gleaned from life, leaving a legacy not of wealth, but of faith, love, and steady guidance.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM in the Brunswick Funeral Service Bolivia Chapel.

We met Wilber for the first time during an event in Iowa. Wilber was the one of the kindest and humble individuals I have ever met. We had a wonderful time getting to know Wilber along with his brother Ken and Ken's wife, Linda, during that time. We are sad to hear of Wilber's passing and send our thoughts and prayers to Aunt Kathy and the rest of the family. Love, Gerald, Shannon and Devin Nelson
