Wilbur Keifer "Sonny" Jarvis, 83, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at his home. He was born July 8, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Keifer and Bonnie Ruth Jones Jarvis. Sonny was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church.
Sonny was the embodiment of resilience, tenacity, and an indomitable will to live. Born in July 1942-a time of great uncertainty and remarkable medical discovery-he entered the world facing nearly impossible odds. As an infant battling a life-threatening illness, he became one of the first civilian babies to receive penicillin, a groundbreaking treatment that was still in its earliest stages of civilian use. His survival was nothing short of miraculous, made possible through the steadfast determination of his mother and the courage of doctors willing to test the boundaries of modern medicine.
Those first years were a struggle marked by countless doctor's visits, hospital stays, and anxious nights. Yet Sonny endured. His early fight for life forged the strength and optimism that would define him for the next eight decades.
As he grew, Sonny's world opened wide. He traveled extensively with his family, exploring the beauty and wonder of the United States-from the shores of the Pacific Ocean to the heights of the Grand Canyon and the vivid landscapes of the Painted Desert. Along the way, he developed a lifelong appreciation for the simple joys of adventure, friendship, and discovery.
Sonny enjoyed a full and vibrant adulthood. He spent many happy days at Active Day of Owensboro, where he was known for his friendly smile, quick wit, and boundless warmth. He never met a stranger and had a unique gift for making everyone around him feel valued and seen. His laughter and kindness were constants in the lives of those who knew him.
In a world where he was never expected to live through the night, Sonny lived 83 remarkable years. He was a living testament to perseverance, faith, and the power of love. Everyone who knew him was better for it-and his memory will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
He was the best of us, and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by a brother, Danny Jarvis; sister, Juanita Reisz; niece, Karree Reisz Boyle (Jimmy); and a great-niece, Kathryn Boyle.
There will be no visitation or service.
