William O. “Bill” Maxberry, 96, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at The Homeplace in Henderson with his family by his side. The Muhlenberg County native was born September 25, 1929, to the late Andrew and Erma Anderson Maxberry. Bill graduated from McLean County High School (class of 1948) where he was in ROTC. He entered the Navy at 19 years of age during the Korean War and was stationed at Great Lakes. He was assigned to the New Orleans, a Recon Class Destroyer, for three years at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base with missions in the Caribbean as well as the Mediterranean.

Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son who later won the Navy Cup at the US National Rifle Championship. Bill and his wife were long-standing members of Buena Vista Baptist Church since 1971.

In addition to his parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Delma Maxberry in 2018; sister, Opal Pearson; stepson, Rick Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Mitchell Maxberry of New Zealand; two grandchildren, Melissa Scott (Chad) of Philpot and Kurt Maxberry (Emily) of Cynthiana; five great grandchildren, Trent Scott, Wyatt Maxberry, Brooks Roman, Valerie Maxberry, and Wesley Maxberry; Mitchell’s mother, Dorothy Lewis of Philpot; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 24 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will be in the Field of Honor at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony’s Hospice, 2410 S. Green Street, Henderson, KY.
