Wilbur P Sydow

Wilbur P. Sydow, 94 of Girard died on Wednesday September 17, 2025 at Pleasant Ridge Manor surrounded by family.

Wilbur was born in Girard on March 4, 1931, to the late Paul and Letha (Stiffler) Sydow.

He graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1948. He was inducted into the United States Army during the Korean War and served in the infantry. Upon his discharge from the military he returned to Girard and worked at Girard Model Works, where he had also worked as a teenager during high school. He was later employed as a machine operator at American Meter, then went to work at St. Vincent Hospital as a security officer. He attended and graduated from Mercyhurst College. In his later years where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Most recently he worked at Mercyhurst College as Chief of Security, retiring in 1996.

Wilbur was a member of Erie Seventh-Day Adventist Church and was a life member of Western PA Chiefs of Police Association and a Life Member of the American Legion Post #0945. He was dedicated to furthering his education throughout his life and attended many workshops and programs in the study of Law and Investigation through Erie County and the state of Pennsylvania. He was also a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed hunting and gardening.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemarie Temple; sister, Virginia Brainard; brother, George H. Sydow

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Karen (Dates) Sydow; two daughters, Tammy L. Radcliffe (Robert) and Tina L. Borland (Earl); son, David P. Sydow; sister in law, Gelsa Sydow; grandchildren, Julie, Damian, Sarah, John, Kendra, Kellie and Kiera; and three great-grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Erie Seventh-day Adventist Church 190 Hunter Willis Rd, Erie, PA 16509 or to the Lake City Fire Company 2232 Rice Ave, Lake City, PA 16423

Friends may call on Tuesday September 23, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Edder Family Funeral Home LLC. 309 Main St. E. Girard. A Funeral Service will be held there the following day, Wednesday, at 11:00 am. Full Military honors and burial to be held following at Platea Cemetery.
