Will “Ed” Thompson Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on April 1, 1941, Ed lived a life marked by faith, generosity, and joy.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964, carrying the values of service, integrity, and loyalty with him throughout his life. At the heart of everything Ed did was his unwavering faith in Jesus, his deep love for his wife Becky, his partner of 63 years, and his devotion to his family and the many friends whose lives he touched.
Ed had a gift for making people feel seen and loved. Known for his goofy sense of humor and warm, welcoming spirit, he brought joy and light wherever he went. He found happiness in the simple things, such as fishing, hunting, and listening to country music, and he cherished the company of those he held dear. A true connector, Ed was always checking in, reaching out, and making sure everyone felt included and cared for.
His generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was his time, his love, or anything he had to give, Ed gave freely and without hesitation. He was the heartbeat of every gathering, the one who brought people together and made them feel like family.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Becky; his children, Donnie and his wife Amy, and Debbie and her husband Chuck; and his eight grandchildren: Brad (Laura), Daniel, Andrew (Maria), Abby Rowland, Dale (Brooke), Joey, Jonathan, and Samuel Thompson. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, William and Holly, with one more on the way.
Ed’s life was a blessing to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
