Willard "Bill" Clawson Jr., 90, of Sycamore, IL, died peacefully in his home on Jan. 6, 2026.
He was born Dec. 23, 1935, to Willard Sr. and Rose Clawson of Sycamore, IL. Bill spent his childhood years in this beloved town. As a young adult, the Clawson family moved to Bothell and Olympia, WA. He enjoyed the local church's young people's group and was a song leader. From 1954 to 1956, Bill served as a corporal in the United States Marines, at Camp Pendleton and China Lake, CA. Returning to Sycamore, Bill met Marge Malone on a blind date, at a Billy Graham Crusade, in Chicago. They were married on Dec. 7, 1963.
While raising two daughters with his wife, Bill was an active charter member of the former Bethany Baptist Church to today's Bethany Road Bible Church of DeKalb. He happily served as a Sunday school bus driver, song leader, and in the basketball and softball leagues. Bill was often seen walking or riding his bike through Sycamore, also stopping casually to visit with family and neighbors. He was a life-long sports enthusiast, and was a loyal Bears and White Sox fan. With his family, Bill traveled throughout the United States. He worked in the printing business and later for Sycamore School District as a bus driver.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marjorie "Marge" Clawson of Sycamore; their children, Cathy (Kyle) Hombs of Dixon, and Michelle (Roger) Huftalin of Rochelle; grandchildren, Katelyn, John (MacKenzie), and Aaron Huftalin of Rochelle; and their great-grandchild, Baby H., due in early 2026. He also leaves his loving brother, Robert (Yanaris) Clawson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary (John) Swineheart; and his brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Karen) Clawson; and much loved Micheline Clawson.
A visitation will take place at Olson's Quiram Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026. On Saturday, Jan. 17, a visitation will be held at Bethany Road Bible Church, 2215 Bethany Rd, DeKalb, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m. A military burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 901 S. Cross St., Sycamore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bethany Road Bible Church or Compassion International.
