William Wiese Obituary

WILLIAM (BILL) E. WIESE
January 15, 1925 ˜ April 17, 2024

William Edward Wiese, known to friends and family as Bill, passed away peacefully April 17, 2024, at the age of 99. Born in Denman, NE, Jan. 15, 1925, to William H. and Anita (Fehrenbacher) Wiese, Bill’s life was marked by service, dedication, and love.
Bill graduated from Shelton High School in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Navy after high school, serving as an RM2c radioman in the Solomon Islands during World War II. He completed Navy training school at the University of Idaho and the Naval training station in Farragut, ID. After serving in World War II, he attended Clark College from 1946 to 1948, earning an associate’s degree. He later graduated from the University of Portland in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Business, through the G.I. Bill.
After the war, Bill managed a Western Auto Store in Baker, OR, where his first child, William “Bill” Jr., was born. The family then moved to Medford, OR, before settling in Vancouver, WA. Bill worked at ALCOA Aluminum Company’s extrusion mill, where he completed a 30-year career. He and his beloved wife, Joyce Carter, whom he married on Aug. 4, 1951, raised eight children together.
Bill was a devout Catholic who cherished attending Mass, gardening, berry picking, and spending time with his family. Together with his wife, Joy, they delighted in providing their children with memorable family camping trips, clamming, crabbing, visiting relatives, going to Disneyland, and supporting their sports activities. Upon retirement, Bill supported John Gay in facilitating girls’ fast pitch clinics in the Vancouver and Seattle areas. Bill and Joy also traveled to health mines in Montana and enjoyed theaters in Branson, MO. Bill kept himself busy by doing yard work for neighbors, supporting his children with their home projects, and attending ball games.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his son, Bill Jr.; his son-in-law, Julio Guiterrez (Kate’s husband); his brother, Bob; and his sister, Rosalie Liggett. He is survived by his sister, Margaret; and his children, Joe (Mary) Wiese, Margaret (Erich) Cranor, Frances (Mike) Trimble, Teresa (Pat) Hinthorn, Mary (Rudy) Lies, Jim (Lesley) Wiese, and Kate Wiese. Bill also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A Requiem Mass will be held at the Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater, 218 W 12th St., Vancouver, WA 98660, on Saturday, June 22. The Rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. A luncheon with croissant sandwiches, salads, and beverages will follow at the upper hall of the Proto-Cathedral at 12 noon.
Interment will take place at Mother Joseph Cemetery Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m.
Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His faith, love, and family were his focus in life.

What a lovely tribute to Bill and your family!

I grew up on 26th Avenue and the Weise's were our neighbors. I spent a lot of time at their house, hanging out with Margaret. I graduated high school with Bill and Joe. Both Bill and Joyce were always warm and welcoming to their children's friends. I loved hanging out at their house. I remember riding Black Diamond and Apple Kiss (who would usually ride into the orchard and knock me off ). There always seemed to be a lot of activity going on and I remember it as a happy place to be. Margaret and I were always cracking up about something. I remember Bill Sr.'s big smile and laugh. I wish I could be at the service today, but sadly, I can't be there. My heart goes out to Bill Jr's kids, Joe, Margaret, Frannie, Teresa, Mary, Jim and Kate, spouses and grandchildren as you mourn the loss of this great man. May God comfort you in the days ahead and fill your hearts with peace. May your memories of him be sweet and make you smile.

Every memory I have of going to Grandma and Grandpa´s was full of joy, safety and love. I am so grateful for them both and so proud to be his granddaughter. Eating a fresh tomato from the garden with salt and pepper, being led on Penny the pony or Lady the horse around the property was a magical wonderland. They showed me what true deep love was and no matter what the situation was I could talk to Grandma and Grandpa and I knew they would be open and loving. Grandpa told me once the secret of life was loving God and loving your spouse and family. I never forgot that and never will. Grandpa was strong, loyal and loving in every part of life. I once told him how much the news hurt my heart and he said sweetheart there have always been terrible things in this world but we didn´t hear about every single one. If it´s upsetting don´t watch it. I will miss him deeply.

Fran and family --

Thank you for this lovely story of your father's life and accomplishments. I watched from the sidelines as you so lovingly helped him. May God bless your family in the coming years as you cherish the memories.

Such fabulous memories of the years at VGSA. The pitching clinics, the years of tournaments and high school softball. Bill, always with a kind supportive word and easy laugh. While taking the competition seriously, after the game he and John were most interested in talent development. So many of us thank Bill for his time and efforts supporting VGSA's successes and the foundation provided for those that carried their talents on to college and furthering women's sports.
