William Nelson Alicea
November 23, 1947 – September 25, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that the family of William Nelson Alicea announces his peaceful passing on September 25, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 76. Born on November 23, 1947, in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, William was the embodiment of humility, generosity, and love. Throughout his life, he touched the hearts of many with his kindness, dedication, and commitment to his family and community.
William was a devoted husband to Louise V. Alicea, his loving wife of nearly 50 years. They were married on November 30, 1974, and together they built a life full of cherished memories, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
He was the proud father of Damian Alicea (wife, Julie Perez), Joshua Alicea, and Xavier Alicea (wife, Hemilse Villagomez). William's legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Desarai Mannelly, Shaun Kirylczuk (deceased), Zane Perez, Savannah Alicea, Adeline Alicea, and Averie Alicea. His great-grandchildren, Brantley Mannelly, Mila Mannelly, Caden Kirylczuk, and Caylee Kirylczuk, brought immense joy to his life.
William is also survived by his siblings, Carmen Alicea, Virginia Mason, and Israel Alicea, as well as his nieces, Sara Santiago and Christina Castro, the daughters of his sister Carmen Alicea. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emilia Santell and Carmelo Alicea, as well as his brother Carmelo Mason.
A man of great skill and determination, William had a long and successful career as a carpenter, eventually retiring as the foreman of general services for the City of Chicago. His leadership, craftsmanship, and attention to detail were highly respected by his colleagues and those who worked under his guidance.
Outside of work, William pursued a wide range of hobbies that brought him happiness and peace. He loved woodworking, salsa dancing, boxing, yoga, and most notably, golfing. His passion for these activities reflected his zest for life and his deep appreciation for learning and personal growth.
William's friends and family will remember him as a man of deep compassion, patience, and forgiveness. His humble and caring nature touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and his absence will be felt deeply.
A celebration of William's life will take place on October 3, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Northlake Funeral Home, 140 E North Ave, Northlake, IL 60164. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his family, who will contribute to the Parkinson's Foundation in his honor.

Bill, you were one of my dearest friends and helped to raise me during my years of working for the City of Chicago. Because of you I have been able to remodel a lot of spaces in my house, on my own, because Lord knows my husband couldn't . Tires and carpentry are not the same! Two days ago, I was cleaning the mirror over my couch that you helped me to mount. I had to finally replace the vanity to the mirror/medicine cabinet that you put on the tile floor you taught me to lay and I'm now redoing my kitchen that you helped me with. From my floors and remodeling projects from the upstairs to the basement, to my picnic table in my back yard, there's not a space in my home or heart that you haven't touched.

Thank you for being a dear friend and excellent teacher to me and all who were blessed to know you. Thank you for being Uncle Bill to Jocelyn's girls and my kids. Thank you for all of the great meals and laughs we shared and exposing me to Puerto Rican culture and food, which has been a love of mine for years!

Prayers, hugs and comfort to your family and friends. I love you my friend.
