William Joseph "Bill" Armstrong

William Joseph "Bill" Armstrong, 80, passed away on March 25, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama.
Born on April 7, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, Bill pursued a lifelong passion for learning and engineering. He earned an associate's degree from the State University of New York before obtaining a Bachelor of Science from Hofstra University. His academic journey culminated with a Master of Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Bill dedicated his career to aerospace engineering, working for various aerospace companies across New York, New Jersey, and Huntsville. His expertise and commitment to the field led him to Boeing, where he spent the final 13 years of his career before retiring in 2011.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill had a deep love for sports and travel. In high school, he played football and wrestled, later channeling his enthusiasm for athletics into refereeing soccer for many years in Huntsville. His adventurous spirit took him to over 50 countries throughout his lifetime.
Proud of his Scottish heritage, Bill was an active member of the Armstrong Clan Society, serving as vice president for two years, president for two years, and editor of the clan newsletter for a decade. He was also a longtime board member of the Tennessee Valley Scottish Society, contributing significantly to its mission and activities.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Armstrong; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Jennifer Armstrong; his daughter and son-in-law, Megan and David Moak; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Lillian Armstrong; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Jasper and Anna Armstrong.
A memorial service will be held on April 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 12200 Bailey Cove Rd., Huntsville, Alabama, 35803. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Special Olympics Alabama, or a charity of your choice.
Bill's legacy of dedication to family, career, and community will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
