Ayre, William "Bill" – of Genesee Township, age 85, passed away peacefully Friday, October 17, 2025, at his residence surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Davison Missionary Church - 1481 N Gale Rd, Davison, MI, Pastor Jason Crum to officiate. The family will receive visitors on Monday from 4PM until 8PM at O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio and on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
Bill was born on October 25, 1939, in Flint, Michigan. Bill grew up with a deep sense of community and a commitment to service that would shape his life's work and legacy. A proud graduate of Kearsley High School's class of 1957, Bill went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan-Flint, later pursuing graduate work at the University of Michigan-Flint. On January 1, 1960, he married the love of his life, Sandra "Sandy" Briggs, with whom he shared a remarkable life filled with love and fulfillment. He found immense joy in family life and often remarked that his loved ones were his greatest legacy.
Bill proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he returned to education, teaching at Powers Catholic High School from 1972 to 1978. He served as the Township Supervisor for Genesee Township from 1978 to 1996, after which he took on the role as a Manager Director at the Genesee County Road Commission until 2000. He later served as the Director of Transportation for the city of Flint from 2004 to 2008.
A member of Davison Missionary Church, Bill's faith anchored his life. He was also a dedicated member of Gideons International for 54 years. His enthusiasm for life was evident in his love for sports, golfing, fishing, and reading. Bill will be remembered as a hardworking man whose spirit and kindness touched many lives. His legacy of love and commitment will forever resonate with those who knew him, and he will be dearly missed by friends, family, and the community he served with such pride.
Surviving are: Loving wife, Sandra Ayre; Daughters: Bethany (Randall) Roy and Lynn (Steve) Culver: Grandchildren: Jessica (Brandon) Spangler, Alexa (Aaron) Moradi, Cameron (Hannah) Culver, Garrett (Sadie) Culver, Carissa (Konrad) Kuhn, Luke (Jewel) Roy, Michaela (Timothy) Bourns and Isabella Culver; He was blessed with many great grandchildren; Siblings: Martha English and John (Patricia) Ayre; Several nieces and nephews and many good friends. He is preceded in passing by his parents: Sheldon and Helen Ayre; Grandson, Joel Roy; Siblings: Sheldon "Sonny" Ayre, Dorothy Masson and Stanley Ayre.
