William Bain Obituary

William Emms Bain

December 12, 1939 - December 23, 2025

William Emms Bain passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 23, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born, raised, and a lifelong resident of Richmond, Virginia, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy J. Bain; his parents, Cecil Anthony Bain and Cecilia Wallmeyer Bain; and his brother, August J. Bain. He is survived by his son, Brian E. Bain; his daughter-in-law, Sarah Bain; and his cherished grandson, Camden E. Bain; and by his daughter, Kelly R. Bain, and his son-in-law, Darren Pollack. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family and by all who knew and loved him.

A graduate of Benedictine High School, Class of 1957, William's Catholic faith was a steady and guiding presence throughout his life. He spent his career at The Richmond Times-Dispatch, from which he later retired, earning the respect of colleagues and friends through his dedication, integrity, and professionalism.

William had a deep love of sports and was widely known for his remarkable knowledge of sports statistics. His enthusiasm for the games-and his ability to recall facts and figures-made him a trusted source and engaging conversationalist among family, friends, and fellow sports fans.

Above all, William was a devoted father and grandfather who took great pride in his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The family will receive visitors on January 2, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, immediately followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Benedictine College Preparatory Schools - Father Adrian Education Fund.

I am so sorry to learn about Chopper. He will be missed by all his classmates. We have enjoyed our many class luncheons that Bill was always so willing to organize.
