William Banze Obituary

BANZE, William Charles, 95, of Prince George, Va., passed away January 20, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Gisela Banze; he is survived by his daughter, Barbara and her husband, Edward Roettger; son, William Jr. and his wife, Laura Carr; grandson, David and his wife, Elizabeth; granddaughter, Katherine and her husband, Ross Staples; and great-granddaughter, Hazel. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Bill enlisted in the Army in 1944 at the age of 18. During the next 33 years in the military, he served in numerous countries and positions and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, having been awarded numerous medals and citations, including the U.S. Army Legion of Merit. After his Army career, Bill spent over 10 years in the U.S. Civil Service, working with the U.S. military in Germany. Bill spent his retirement traveling and spoiling Gisela. Despite living all over the world, he always considered himself to be fundamentally a member of the Pittsburgh Banzes. Due to COVID-19, there will be a private burial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Petersburg, Va. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.

Tom knew Bill for years and was in the luncheon group that met every month. I talked to him each time he called about lunch reservations and always had interesting talks and enjoyable. Our thoughts and prayers to all the family at this time.
