William Barrett Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 6, 2026.
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, William G. Barrett, Jr., of Chestnut Ridge, NY and Harbor Island, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on March 1, 2026. He was born March 21, 1939, in Portchester, NY. Bill graduated as Valedictorian from Sacred Heart School in the Bronx in 1952, and graduated from All Hallows Prep in 1956. He earned a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Physics from Iona College in 1960, and went on to earn a masters degree in School Administration at Teachers College of Columbia University.

Bill spent his entire career serving the students of the Rye School District. He began as a well-loved math teacher at Rye High School in 1960, where he went on to become Assistant Principal. He later served as Assistant Superintended for the district, a position he held for many years until his retirement in 1994. Throughout his career, Bill was active in community service as a Rotarian, where he was honored with a Paul Harris Fellowship, and he will be remembered with joy by hundreds of local children as the jolliest Santa Claus in the County.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Silvia Perciavalle Barrett; his son William G. Barrett III and wife, Marlene; his daughter Catherine Barrett Morse; grandsons Kenneth Morse and Phillip Morse; and granddaughters Katie Morse, Emily Morse, Anna Barrett and Megan Barrett. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ridgway Barrett and father, William George Barrett; by his brother, Robert Charles Barrett; and by his son-in-law, Phillip M. Morse.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at St. Ann's Church, 16 Jefferson St, Nyack, NY. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery in Congers, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to the charity and good works of the donor's choice
