William Bell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Covington Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens - Fort Wayne on Feb. 17, 2026.
William "Bill" Ray Bell, 81 of Fort Wayne passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Bethlehem Woods Nursing Home. He was born on February 20, 1944, the son of the late Russell and May (Francher) Bell. He married Colleen Murphy.

Bill graduated from Arcola High School before he joined The United States Air Force. After his time in the service, he would work in manufacturing until his retirement from Navistar after 34 years. He enjoyed seeing his old high school classmates and hanging out at the VFW. He enjoyed 60's era music, dancing, going to the lake and traveling. Sometimes just getting in his car and taking off for a long drive, then sending post cards back home when he arrived at unplanned destinations.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Colleen; daughter Colette Bell; stepson Marc Murphy and a sister, Sharon Scott. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Butch" Bell.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, cremation will take place and he will be inurned at Covington Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Yesterday

I remember sharing Air Force experiences with Bill. And he really enjoyed reading my books from Air Command and Staff College, that I found boring!! Our condolences to your family.
