William Todd Benton, 65, of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and commitment. He was born on January 17, 1960, in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. As a respected Lighting Technician for the Georgia Department of Transportation, Todd took pride in his work, demonstrating a remarkable work ethic that earned him the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Notably, Todd served his country faithfully in the United States Army, embodying the values of duty and service. His military experience shaped his character, instilling in him a discipline that carried over into all facets of his life.
Sports were a significant part of Todd's life; he had a passion for NASCAR and was a devoted fan of Georgia Bulldogs Football and the Washington Redskins. These interests were not just hobbies but also a means through which he connected with family and friends, sharing countless moments of joy and camaraderie.
Todd is survived by his beloved wife, Regina Beck Benton, with whom he shared 40 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love and happiness. Todd was a proud father to Seth Thomas Benton, and his son and daughter-in-law, Eli Wayne Benton and Sarah. He was a cherished grandfather to Miyah and Maggie, who brought immense joy to his life. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Peggy Ann Owens Benton; his brother, Bob Benton; and his sister, Barbara Kinard; along with special friend, Casey Davis; cousins, Mike Holmes and Phillip Holmes; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will fondly remember him.
He is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Todd Benton; and his father, Robert Charles Benton.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 2 p.m., in the McGahee-Griffin and McEntire chapel with Rev. Lamar Purcell officiating. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery..
Visitation will be held at McGahee-Griffin and McEntire Funeral Home in Cornelia on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
