Shamokin – William L. Berkheimer, 84, of 1023 E. Cameron Street, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025 at Mountain View Manor, Coal Township.

Born in Danville on August 25, 1940, William was the son of the late Frank G. and G. Edna (McClintock) Berkheimer.

He was a 1959 graduate of Danville High School. William worked as a welder for New Columbia Joist for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed talking to the vacationers while being a ride operator at Knoebel’s Amusement Resort.

On July 1, 1961, in Shamokin, William married Amy Strausser, who survives. Together they shared 64 years of marriage.

William was an avid Phillies, Eagles and Penn State fan. He and his wife enjoyed their time together, site seeing. They traveled on many vacations, including, a cruise to Alaska. They visited California, South Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. They took many camping trips to most of the states, up and down the east coast. They could be found going to the Home Town Farmers Market on Wednesdays and the Beacon Diner, as well as the Gratz Market on Fridays and the Goodwill Restaurant. William and his wife enjoyed socializing with a special nephew, Mark Ulrich and his wife Sharon. Every Fall they would travel to see the Elk in Elk County. William was an excellent swimmer and saved a girl from drowning. He belonged to a bowling league, loved roller skating and was a good dancer.

He was a lifetime member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by a daughter, Susan Cupp and her husband Mark of Shamokin; a brother, Robert Berkheimer; two sisters, Diane Kemper and her husband Chuck and Arlene Ulrich; a brother-in-law, Bimmie Strausser and his wife Judy of Elysburg; and many nieces nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by a brother, David Berkheimer; a mother-in-law, Sally Strausser; a sister-in-law, Bertha Berkheimer, a brother-in-law, George Ulrich; two nephews, Rickie Ulrich and Keith Ulrich; and a niece, Beth Temple.

FUNERAL NOTICE

William L. Berkheimer, 84, Shamokin – Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 12:00 pm, with Pastor Bridget Wagner, officiating at Farrow-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, PA, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Viewing will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Saturday July 26, 2025, prior to the service from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury. In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to, Clarks Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 87, Paxinos, PA 17860.
