William Joseph Bonsor, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born October 24, 1948, to James Bonsor and Barbara Jane Bonsor, Bill grew up in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he formed lifelong friendships with the ‘Westside Gang.’
A graduate of Science Hill High School, Class of 1966, Bill attended East Tennessee State University and served in the US Marine Corps Reserves for six years, receiving an honorable discharge in 1973. He carried a strong work ethic with him throughout his life, retiring from Kmart in 2015, following 50 years of dedicated service. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, good humor, and the love he gave to his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jane Bonsor; two daughters, Kimberly Bonsor Wells (husband: Scott) and Kristie Bonsor Sattler (husband: Jason); a son, Kevin Bonsor (wife: Lisa); seven grandchildren, Alexis, Ryan, Corbin, Broderick, Declan, Gavin, and Braden; two brothers-in-law, Jack Riley and Danny Riley; a niece and four nephews.
A private gathering for family and close friends to honor and celebrate Bill’s life will be held March 8, 2026
In lieu of flowers, the family askes for donations be made in Bill’s name to two organizations: The National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
