EAST PEORIA – William D. “Bill” Gunion, 69, of East Peoria, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
Bill was born on January 8, 1953, in Pekin, to Franklin and Myrna (Kohtz) Gunion. He married Kathy Oertle on July 2, 1992, in Pekin.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Gunion of East Peoria; three sisters, Connie (Dave) Hicks of Morton, Debby Erickson of Homewood, Ill., Sandra (Bob) Mullens of Bartonville; two brothers-in-law, Ron (Sue) Oertle of Graniteville, S.C., Bob Oertle of Green Valley, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Jim) Taylor of Morton and Judy Lahr of St. Ignance, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
Bill retired from the Village of Morton in 2012, after 40 years of service, last working as a gas and water locator. After his retirement from the Village, Bill began working as a bus driver for We Care in 2013.
He was a volunteer for the local post of the VFW.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with Brandon Laesch officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
Memorials may be made to We Care or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
